Combat Hapkido

Combat Hapkido classes at our school are extremely small providing a semi-private setting. Our classes have a maximum of ten adult students. We train week-nights only with beginner to advanced classes. We provide weapons training and a full array of disarming techniques. We also have an instructors program for the advanced students. Several of our current Black Belts are Chartered School owners.

As mentioned previously, classes are for adults only. Our school is perfect for the student who finds time is of the essence. Classes are designed for the busy professional who has a desire to learn the most effective self-defensive system available. Calisthenics are not a part of our curriculum; self-defense is the focus.

There are no contracts to sign, and fees are paid monthly. Please contact us to set up a free introductory class where we allow potential new students to visit our school and watch a class to see their future capabilities. What Is Combat Hapkido?

The self-defense system that we teach is called Combat Hapkido.  It is an internationally recognized system of self-defense training which is known for its extreme versatility and comprehensive discipline of self protection.  Combat Hapkido includes an extensive variety of strikes, kicks, join locks, pressure points, grappling, ground defensives, weapons disarming techniques and the use of selected weapons.

Our system is well suited for men and women of all sizes and ages (12 – adult) because physical strength and athletic abilities are not essential. The result is a practical and realistic self-defense system which is fun to learn and offers tangible solutions to realistic life situations.  Our approach to self-defense is both practical and highly scientific.

Students learn dynamic concepts that are based on scientific principles of anatomy and biokinetics, as well as psychology and strategy. The emphasis is on redirecting the assailant's force and controlling the attacker with minimum effort on the student’s part.

In addition to learning effective self-defense, Combat Hapkido also provides a student with the means the means to improve their physical fitness, awareness, flexibility and self-confidence.  As the student progresses through our program, he or she will gain the confidence, awareness, and attitude to avoid confrontation and de-escalate a situation.

The concepts and skills they learn will give them the capability to protect themselves or their love ones if faced with any potentially life-threatening situation, where defending themselves or their loved ones is necessary to prevent physical injury or lose of life.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TRADITIONAL HAPKIDO...

... AND COMBAT HAPKIDO

Combat Hapkido is a new, modern style of Hapkido developed by Grandmaster John Pellegrini. Combat Hapkido differs from other Hapkido styles philosophically as well as technically.

Following are a few examples:

  • Combat Hapkido is 100% Self Defense. There are no forms (Kata/Hyungs).
  • All Combat Hapkido kicks are directed to the lower part of the body.
  • Combat Hapkido does not teach "acrobatic" kicks.
  • Combat Hapkido employs breakfalls and throws in a very limited manner.
  • Combat Hapkido has no hard blocks or stances.
  • Combat Hapkido does not teach "Traditional" weapons like joot-do (bamboo sword) or fan. We teach cane, belt and other Self Defense tools.
  • Combat Hapkido teaches special firearms disarming techniques.
  • Combat Hapkido contains a complete Ground Grappling program.
  • Combat Hapkido, because it is flexible, dynamic and eclectic, continues to evolve.
  • Combat Hapkido is not a sport and cannot be modified nor regulated to be one. There are no competitions, tournaments or championships.

WHAT COMBAT HAPKIDO IS NOT:

  • A new Martial Art
  • Traditional Hapkido with a different name
  • A "Free-Style" type of Martial Art
  • A Martial Sport
  • An amateurish mix of random techniques from different Martial Arts

  WHAT COMBAT HAPKIDO IS:

  • A new, modern style of Hapkido
  • A totally scientific approach to Self Defense
  • A realistic and effective discipline of personal protection
  • A dynamic and flexible program of learning and teaching
    the science of Self Defense
  • The result of over 35 years of Martial Arts study, research, application and synthesis
